Florida paycheck calculator

Florida does not tax wages. Hourly workers sometimes hear that as “no taxes,” which is how a $20 an hour offer gets misunderstood. Forty hours and 52 weeks is $41,600. After the federal standard deduction, a single filer still owes tax in the 10% and 12% brackets, plus Social Security and Medicare. The state line stays at zero. The deposit does not.

Miami, Tampa, Orlando, and Jacksonville are not sitting on a city wage tax in this model. Tips you enter are part of gross pay and are taxed like wages for federal and FICA purposes. Overtime is the same: the premium is extra gross, and the marginal federal rate applies to it. There is no Florida disability payroll tax in the employee lines we model.

The hourly calculator on the home tool, with Florida selected, is the right place for a weekly schedule that is not a neat salary. Set hours, paid weeks, and any overtime. The stub annualizes that year and then splits it into the paycheck frequency you pick.

Local tax

Florida does not have a local wage tax in this file. City costs show up in rent and sales tax, not as a second income-tax line on the stub.

What is not included

Credits, itemized deductions, multi-state credits, property tax, sales tax, and unsourced local rates are not included. Employer payroll tables can differ from this annualized estimate. Property tax and sales tax in Florida are real costs of living and are intentionally off this paycheck.

Questions

Does Florida have a state income tax on paychecks?

No. Wages are not subject to a Florida personal income tax. Federal tax and FICA still are.

Are tips taxed in this estimate?

Yes. Tips you enter are added to gross and run through federal tax and FICA. They do not create a Florida income-tax line.

Why does a no-tax state still lose 15% or more?

FICA alone is 7.65% until the Social Security cap. Federal income tax sits on top of that, even with a large standard deduction.
